Priyasri Biography

Priyasri, credited as Priya on silver screen and small screen is a noted actress associated with south Indian screen. She is associated with entertainment industry since 1980s, mostly playing supporting roles. Yet she played a few roles in Malayalam and Tamil movies too. Currently she is fully active on small screen, predominantly in Tamil soaps. As a film actress, she is best known for playing the lead role of a blind girl in 1986 Malayalam movie, Ninnistham Ennishtam co-staring Mohanlal. The evergreen romantic duet of 1980s, Ilam Manjin Kulirumayoru was filmed on this actress and Mohalal. She has also acted in one Urdu film in 2005 in a supporting role, titled Kyun Tum Say Itna Pyar Hai.

Her real name is Karpagavalli. She earlier used Priyasri as her screen name, and currently is known by the name Priya in Tamil television. She is now settled in Teynampet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She started her film journey in 1984, working as a background dancer for Malayalam movies, and was seen in Enganeyundashane, Boeing Boeing etc. She frequently worked in Mohanlal movies in lead and supporting roles throughout 1980s, of which her lead role in Ninnistham Ennishtam is very famous. Boeing Boeing, Shobharaj, Adiverukal, Padayani, Gandhinagar Second Street, Moonnam Mura, Sukhamo Devi, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu, Aryan, Ayitham  etc are some of Mohanlal movies in which she appeared in 1980s.

Kadathanadan Ambadi, Malootti, Mrigaya, Pappan Priyappetta Pappan, Snehamulla Simham etc area few more noted roles. She appeared in a cameo role in the sequel of Ninnistham Ennishtam released in 2011. Priya marked her Tamil debut with Solla Thudikkuthu Manasu in a lead role opposite Karthik. She was seen in brief roles in Tamil films - Kunguma Kodu, Velai Kidaichuduchu, Velai Kidaichuduchu, Nyaya Tharasu, Bombay etc, and also a few Hindi films since 1990s.
