Priti Patkar Biography 
Priti Patkar is a social worker and human rights activist from Mumbai. She is best known for her efforts she made to protect kids from child trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, and also red-light districts of Mumbai. She started world's first night care center for children of women working in red light districts. For these activities, she set up an organization named Prerana in Mumbai aside her husband. Priti is the wife of Pravin Patkar, academic, social scientist, writer and human rights activist. Priti is the co-founder of Prerana and currently serves as the director of this organization.
Priti Patkar hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father was a government employee while her mother ran a daycare centre. A brilliant student in academics, Priti completed her Master’s in Social Service from The Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai with a gold medal. Since young she has been interested in the field of social services and hence decided to study in advance. That’s why she joined The Tata Institute of Social Sciences. She got married to social activist Pravin Patkar, and as a couple they did a lot of work towards the welfare of kids mostly to protect them from commercial sexual exploitation and child trafficking, through the organization they started in Mumbai – Prerana.
The couple has been associated with this field for more than 30 years. They have rescued many women and children from the grip of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking through their combined effort. Prerana was started in 1986, soon after Priti completed her Master’s degree in Social Service from The Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She also did a lot of research works before the accomplishment of the project. Prerana is the world's first Institutional Placement Programme, and world's first Network of Anti Trafficking Organizations too.
