Prem Rawat Biography 
Prem Rawat is the son of Hans Ji Maharaj, the spiritual leader and Rawat follows the footsteps of his father. Hans Ji Maharaj founded the Divine Light Mission (DLM) in 1960, which was quite popular across West. Prem Rawat, a messenger of peace, has played a pivot role in popularizing his ideas and the organisation in the West, though he later changed its name and purpose. When Hans Ji Maharaj passed away in 1960, his fourth and last son Prem Rawat continued with the missions of his father. His elder brother Satpal Maharaj too is also a spiritual leader, though active in National level politics.
Prem Rawat, an Indo-American is the youngest son of Hans Ji Maharaj. Fondly called Maharaji by his followers, he was formerly known as Guru Maharaj Ji and Balyogeshwar. He moved to US at the age of 13, where he became permanently settled preaching the principles of his late father. He lost his father at the age of 8, and became Satguru at this age. He was born to Hans Ji Maharaj’s second wife Rajeshwari Devi, later known among followers as "Mata Ji".
Though he faced several criticisms at the initial stage, he opened hundreds of DLM centers opened worldwide. Many western followers spent their life in the ashrams. Rawat became emancipated at the age of 16 and got married. It was following the Millennium '73 festival was held in the Houston Astrodome. He cut ties with his ancestors and parent DLM at Haridwar, India. By that time he established DLM centres in 55 countries across the world and retained control of the DLM branches except the parent one.
With 1980s he entered a new era of life where he started discarding direct references to religion in his speeches and also closed the ashrams. He changed the name DLM to Elan Vital and established "The Prem Rawat Foundation". He propagates the message of peace without the shadow of any religion.
