Prashant Nair Biography

Prashant Nair is an Indian filmmaker who directed two movies - Delhi In A Day and Umrika. In 2019 he made his first television series, Made in Heaven. His 2015 movie Umrika starring Suraj Sharma was shown at many international film festivals and received several nominations and honours. The movie was premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award. His debut film - Delhi In A Day also opened to critical acclaim.

Prashant Nair was born in Chandigarh, and is of Kerala origin. Both his parents are diplomats and he was brought up in different countries. His stay in different parts of the world made a great impact in his film making and selection of themes later. As he was raised in different parts of the world he is fluent in English, Hindi, French, Italian, German and Arabic. His professional career started off as a social media entrepreneur, and he stayed with this field till early 2010s. His first full-length film was the micro-budget Delhi In A Day, which describes to be a "a sort of film school." But the movie went on to garner positive reviews from critics, and was listed among top independent movies of the year 2012, which encouraged him to do more movies.

His second movie – Umrika in a much wider frame earned him recognition and numerous honours. IPRESCI Critic's Prize at 2015 Cairo International Film Festival, HP Briding The Borders Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival 2016 and World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at 2015 Sundance Film Festival are among the honours received by the movie. His recent TV series, Made in Heaven was premiered on Amazon Video on 8 March 2019. The series include many stars including Kalki Koechlin.
