Prasad Murella Biography

Prasad Murella is a well-known cinematographer associated with Telugu and Tamil cinema. Currently he is concentrated on to his career in Telugu cinema, though he began his professional career with Tamil films. He is associated with cine industry since year 2000, and has spent nearly 2 decades in the industry. He won Nandi Award for Best Cinematographer for 2010 movie, Namo Venkatesa. He also won SIIMA Award for Best Cinematography in Telugu for 2013 film, Attharintiki Daaredhi. S/O Satyamurthy, Soukhyam, MLA and Katamarayudu are among his most recent works. Dookudu, Ready, King etc are other noted works.

Prasad Murella hails from Vijayawada, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. He was born in the year 1968. He spent his childhood and younger days in his hometown, where he completed his education. However his passion to cinema prompted him to move to Chennai in his 20s where he worked as an assistant cinematographer under several known cine personalities for a while. He has assisted Ravi Yadav, and D Shanker during his early days in Chennai.

As a full-fledged cinematographer he got his first break in the year 2000. Tamil film Azhagana Naatkal directed by Sundar C marked his debut as a cinematographer, and then he worked for Tamil movies such as Winner, Devathayai Kanden, Chinna and Rendu. By that time he already started getting offers from Telugu films. Two Telugu movies got released in 2004 back-to-back marking his Telugu debut – Venky and Chanti. After 2006, he completely switched over to Telugu cinema, and cemented his position in the industry as well. As of now he has done more than 15 films in Telugu and 5 films in Tamil.
