Pramila Joshai Biography

Pramila Joshai is a south Indian film actress who predominantly worked in Kannada films. As a film actress she is best known for her debut Tamil film Vaidehi Kathirunthal (1984) which became a blockbuster hit and also earned the cult status. She played the titular role of Vaidehi in the film, and was credited as Parimalam in her debut. Hers was a supporting but the most pivot role of the movie. She is married to Kannada actor Sundar Raj, and the couple has one daughter Meghana Raj, who is an established actress in south Indian cinema. Meghana is now married to her childhood friend Chiranjeevi Sarja, an actor and a nephew of actor Arjun Sarja.

Pramila Joshai starred in more than 120 movies in Kannada, and she started her career with Kannada cinema in the late 1970s. She also did a few Tamil works. She was seen in an uncredited film role in Tamil movie, Thappu thalangal (1979), and film Vaidehi Kathirunthal (1984) was her first credited Tamil film. She started her acting career with Kannada movie, Thayigintha Devarilla (1977), and has been regular in films throughout 1980s.

Apart from an actress, she has also produced movies. She was the producer of 2005 Kannada film, Thaayi which won Best Feature Film in Kannada and Best Lyrics at the most prestigious National Film Awards. She also acted in this movie. The movie also bagged Karnataka State Film Awards for Special Film of Social Concern. In 1980 she won Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress for the role she played in Sangeeta. Bahuparak, Chamkayisi Chindi Udayisi, Thaayi are some of her releases in the recent past.
