Pradeep Rawat (actor) Biography

Pradeep Rawat is better popular as Gajani. Yes, he is the villain of both Hindi and Tamil versions of Gajani. Perhaps, it has occurred for the first time in the history of Indian cinema that a film title has been coined from villain’s name. When the Tamil movie ‘Gajani’ was remade to Hindi, 3 actors of original movie were retained. They are the heroine, Asin, police officer Riyaz Khan and the third person, none other than the villain Pradeep Rawat. Many film critics reviewed that villain with big golden chains and his costumes make us refresh the memories of villains of Hindi cinema of 90’s. Even in the era of late 2000’s, his old get up was able to catch attention of the public and the movie broke several records of opening day collections and the biggest block buster of Aamir Khan following 3 Idiots. In Tamil Gajani, he did double role of Ram and Lakshman while in Hindi version, the total climax script was rewritten and looks more realistic too!

Pradeep Rawat entered acting through Ramanand Sagar’s Mahabharata during late 80’s and early 90’s. He did the role of Ashwatthama, Dronacharya's son. But his name was credited as Pradeep sarangi.  He did bit roles in Hindi movies of 90’s like Rajkumar, Sarhad, Dushmani,Aitbaar, Meri jung, Insaniyat, Apradhi, Kohra, Koyla, Aneepath, Baagi, Pathar ke phool, Awaargi and Sangdil sanam. He has also done roles in Lagaan, Sarfarosh, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and Deewar. He was introduced to big roles films through Telugu movie, Sye in the year 2004, a year before Gajani happened to him. In Sye, he did ‘bad boy’s’ role for which he accumulated many awards including Telugu film awards, Nandi awards and Santhosham awards.

Gajani’s Tamil version (2005) was his debut movie in Tamil. He has also worked for a few movies like Haridas, Aasal, Sabari, Mirattal and Thotti jaya. He has worked in 2 Malayalam films as well – China town and Ithu pathiramanal. Nightfall is his single English movie. He has worked for 3 Kannada movies till now – Abhay, Bachan and Gaya. Before becoming busy in industry, he worked as a banker in U.C.O Bank, Jabalpur.
