Poonam Yadav Biography

Poonam Yadav is a celebrated woman cricketer from India, who is a member of national team. She was a team member of 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup, which reached till finals, and since then she has been in limelight. She made her debut in International cricket on 5 April 2013 in a WT20I match against Bangladesh. She played her first Test Series on 16 November 2014 against South Africa and first ODI match on 12 April 2013 against Bangladesh. As of now she has played 1 test match, 23 ODI and 23 T20 matches for team India, taking 3, 33 and 34 wickets each. She plays as Right-arm leg break bowler for her team.

 

Poonam Yadav was born on 24 August 1991 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Her father is a retired army officer while her mother is a homemaker. She completed her studies from home state, and also played domestic cricket before she became a member of national team in 2013 as a specialized bowler. She has played for Central Zone, Uttar Pradesh and Railways before. Hemlata Kala is her cricket coach who played a magnificent role in her life to bring her to limelight. Her father was adamant that Poonam should not play cricket. But it was her coach who convinced him, and let her allow playing cricket.

 

Her inclination towards sports was obvious to everyone, and she didn’t even scare minute injuries. Even though her family was on her side, Poonam had to face sexism from all quarters. But through her talent and determination she proved before the world, woman can also play the game of cricket. Poonam has been a part of just a single test match. It was played on 16th Nov 2014 against South Africa. She is also the only front-line bowler who has been in every T20 match for India in 2018.
