Piya Sengupta Biography

Piya Sengupta is a Bengali film director, actress and screenwriter. She is a film producer also. As a film actress she is best known for the movies, Chore Chore Mastuto Bhai (2005) and Pratidwandi (2010). She is married to Bengali filmmaker Anup Sengupta, and their son Bonny Sengupta is an upcoming film actor of Bengali cinema who made his film debut in 2014. Popular film and television actor Indraneil Sengupta is her brother-in-law. Thus model-actress Barkha Bisht Sengupta is also her relative. Actor-director Sukhen Das is her uncle.

Piya was born into a Bengali family, with connections to film industry. Her father Ajoy Das was a filmographer. Her uncle Sukhen Das is a popular actor-director. Later she got married to film director, Anup Sengupta. Piya’s studies were completed at Kamala Girls School, and Jogomaya Devi College, Kolkata. Piya started her film career in 2005 doing supporting roles, and later she moved behind camera. Currently she is known as a screenwriter, producer and director associated with Bengali cinema. She was first seen in the movie, Nyaya Anyay (1981).

Piya became active in the industry after her marriage. She played supporting roles on screen since 2005. Chore Chore Mastuto Bhai (2005) and Pratidwandi (2010) are her best works as an actress. Both the movies were directed by her husband, Anup Sengupta. Dadar Adesh, Mama Bhagne and Tara are other noted appearances. She made a guest appearance in the film - Mama Bhagne in 2009. She produced the movies, Dadar Adesh (2005) and Mahaguru (2007). Though her son Bonny Sengupta has entered film industry most recently, he has not worked with his parents yet.
