Paul Blackthorne Biography

Paul Blackthorne is a British actor best known for playing the antagonist Captain Andrew Russell in the Academy awards nominated Hindi film - Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, the lead roles played by Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh. Though associated with television earlier, Lagaan was his first role on big screen. As a successful actor on small screen, he currently portrays the role of Quentin Lance in ‘Arrow’ American television series playing the role of Quentin Lance since 2012. In 2015, he was seen in one episode of ‘The Flash’. He is to play the lead role in the upcoming British movie - Dark Ascension. He is also a radio actor.

Paul was born on 5th March 1969 in Wellington, Shropshire, England.  He spent his childhood in England and Germany. He started off with ad films and Grim Reaper commercial for Virgin Atlantic was his real breakthrough. Though he did a few cameo roles, Bollywood movie, Lagaan (2001) is credited as his first feature film. He learnt Hindi language for one month and excelled in his role as Captain Andrew Russell in grey shades and it’s difficult to say that Lagaan is his debut movie only. Since the script demanded a British cast, Ashutosh Gowariker and Aamir Khan hired Danielle Roffe as one of the casting directors, who conducted screen tests for several actors and finally chose Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne for their prime roles. The actor received a nomination both at  IIFA and Screen Awards for Best Villain category.

Later Paul appeared in several foreign language movies like Special, Four Corners of Suburbia, Mind crime, The Gold Lunch, Dumb and Dumber To, This American Journey etc. He is to play the title role of Willis in the upcoming British movie - Dark Ascension (the first one of the trilogy).
