Pala. Karuppiah Biography

Pala. Karuppiah is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu, who also plays supporting roles in Tamil movies. As a political leader he is associated with DMK regional party. He was earlier associated with AIADMK and party’s general secretary Jayalalithaa removed Harbour MLA Pala. Karuppiah from all positions of the party, including the primary membership, for bringing disrepute to the party in 2016. A day later he resigned from his assembly constituency also. Noted Tamil filmmaker Karu Pazhaniappan is his nephew. He is also a film producer since 1980s.

 

Pala. Karuppiah hails from Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. He was born on 2 April 1943. He was a film producer before joining politics. He entered film scene as a producer in the 1980s. Indru Nee Nalai Naan (1983), Andha Oru Nimidam (1985), Poruthathu Pothum (1988) and Vaa Vaa Vasanthamey (1992) are his production ventures. In 2010 he entered acting playing a supporting role in the highly acclaimed film, Angaadi Theru, directed by Vasanthabalan. Then he appeared in Naadi Thudikkuthadi, and he also plays a noted role in upcoming movie, Sarkar starring Vijay. He has also scripted a few Tamil films in the past.

 

Pala. Karuppiah is a successful politician as well. He was a member of the 14th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Harbour constituency in Chennai District, representing AIDMK party. However after expelling from the party in 2016, he resigned his MLA seat and also joined DMK party. Ms. Jayalalithaa said he had functioned contrary to the party’s ideology and principles. He publicly criticised the behaviour of Ministers and was sacked. His house was attacked by unknown people later and he later accused the AIADMK government of corruption.
