P. K. Medini Biography 
P. K. Medini is a revolutionary singer, social activist, musician and stage artist from the state of Kerala. She is also among the very rare living freedom fighters of India. Now she is 85+. She was also associated with historical Punnapra-Vayalar uprising. She is also associated with politics, affiliated to Communist Party of India. This folk singer hails from Alappuzha, and still active with her social activities. Now she can’t sing as before and health is also failing. Noted screenwriter Sarangapani is her brother.
P. K. Medini was born in Alappuzha, Kerala. Kanjiramchira Anthekkuparambu is her ancestral home in Alappuzha. She was born as one among the 12 children of Kankali and Paapi. Her brother Sarangapani was a renowned artist best known as a screenwriter. He was also associated with historical Punnapra-Vayalar uprising. During her younger days she witnessed days of the struggle, the poverty and discrimination. To live, they needed to work in fields for landlord and she also experienced the pain of poverty and social injustice from a very young age.
Medini took to singing at the age of 8. By the time she was 12, the Communist uprising was gaining momentum and she too joined the stream. Then she started accompanying her brothers to party meetings. Her powerful rendition of songs heralding the revolution quickly captured the common man's heart. It also added more fuel to the revolt of freedom. Interestingly the activist who charged Communist men through her songs married a Congressman. Many in the party questioned her decision. But he is a good person without any preconditions or demanding dowry, that’s how Medini defended her decision. But at the age of 36, Medini was widowed. Currently she lives in Alappuzha with her extended family.
