Nivedhitha Biography

Nivedhitha, formerly credited as Smitha is an actress associated with Kannada films. Her full name is Smitha Jagadish. She started her film career with supporting roles and later moved to lead roles, and succeeded in both. The actress is best known for her performance in Kannada movie December-1 which fetched her Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for the year 2014. Avva fetched her Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the year 2008. Her recent flick Shuddhi gave her a nomination at Filmfare awards in best actress category.

Her real name is Smitha Jagadish. She used her real name for her early movies. Her father Jagadish served as a deputy commissioner of commercial taxes, and is now retired. She was a tomboy during her younger days. She completed her engineering from CMRIT College, Bangalore. Later she worked with Infosys for a year. She quit the job to pursue a career in acting. She joined Anupam Kher's acting school to do a crash course on acting and later attempted for opportunities. Akasha Gange was the first movie signed. However the movie got delayed.

She signed a series of movies, Kallarali Hoovagi, Sixer, Mathad Mathadu Mallige and Avva, and all got released one after the other. . Avva fetched her Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the year 2008. It was the first film role which earned her recognition. The film also made headlines for a kissing scene featuring Smitha and Duniya Vijay. Her first signed film Akasha Gange finally got release in 2008 after a delay of 2 years. She also acted in one Tamil film, Porkkalam before sheswitched back to Kannada films. She also did one more Tamil film Kathai (2010), before which she changed her name.
