Nayana Apte Joshi is a renowned Marathi actress who appears in movies, plays and television shows. She is the daughter of yesterday actress, Shanta Apte. This renowned artist has been honoured with Padma Shri award in 2014, for her overall contributions towards the field of art and cinema. She has also received awards and honours from Marathi Natya Parishad, Kumar Kala Kendra and Maharashtra Kala Kendra. She is also a recipient of Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangha Award. She was a part of one of the early soaps of Indian television, Shanti in 1994, followed by Waqt ki rafter, Don’t worry ho jayega,Chuk Bhul Dyavi Ghyavi, Sukhanchya Sarini He Mann Bavare etc.

Nayana Apte Joshi was born in Mumbai in year 1950. She was born into a family with close links to cinema and music. Her mother Shanta Apte was a singer-actress who worked in Marathi and Hindi cinema, and one of the early successful heroines of talkies in the 1930s. Following mother’s path, Nayana too reached the same field. In fact she took formal education of classical music from her mother, and later took advanced training from a few more gurus. She also studied Natya Sangeet from Govindrao Patwardhan and many other artists.

The veteran artist Nayana Apte Joshi started her film journey as a child artist in 1957. She is still active in the field of acting, and has completed 6 decades in this field. She has acted in 65 Marathi plays, apart from a few Gujarati plays. She has acted in more than 25 Marathi films and a few Hindi and Gujarati films. She has done more than 15 TV shows in Hindi and Marathi languages, and is a household name in Maharashtra.
