Nandana Sen Biography

Nandana Sen is a noted Indian actress of Bollywood and English who works most for international projects. She has also done a couple of Bengali and Italian movies. She is the daughter of Nobel prize winner Amartya Sen and noted Bengali writer, Nabanita Dev Sen. Apart from being a popular actress, she is also known as a writer and child-rights activist. Her first work was published in the magazine Sandesh, selected by Satyajit Ray when she was a child. As a Bollywood actress, her noted movies are Rang Rasiya, Black, Tango Charlie, Marigold, Jhootha hi sahi, Prince and My Wife's Murder. Nadana married John Makinson, CEO of Penguin Publishing in June 2013.

Nandana Sen studied literature at Harvard University where she had topped all the years winning many scholarships. Sen studied Film Producing at the Peter Stark Producing Program at the USC Film School. Later she wrote and directed a few short films of which her thesis film “Arranged Marriage” was shown in many film festivals. She learnt acting from Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, New York and Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London.

Apart from being a successful actress, she is also associated with social activities like child protection. Nandana is Smile Ambassador for the global children’s NGO Operation Smile, UNICEF India's National Celebrity for Child Protection and against Gender Based Violence and Cause Ambassador for RAHI. A few of her noted international films include - Perfect Mismatch, The forest, The War Within, The Miracle: A Silent Love Story, Forever and Bokshu, The Myth. She played the lead role in Bengali movie, Autograph (2010) which was the debut movie of Srijit Mukherji as a director. This movie, remake of Satyajit Ray's 1966 film Nayak was a huge hit at box office and received critical acclaim as well.
