Na. Muthukumar Biography

Na. Muthukumar is an Indian Tamil poet, writer and a lyricist who has worked for many Tamil language films. He has given many hit songs that rocked Tamil Nadu.

 

He was born in a small village named Tirur near Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. His birthday falls on 30th November. His father’s name is Nagaraj and he worked as Tamil teacher in the village school. His father was highly interested in reading and has amassed more than 5000 books in his lifetime. Muthukumar used to read those books and he could gain knowledge through them. After the death of his father, those books were brought and placed in his Chennai office so that those who want to expand their knowledge may use them. He is very interested in establishing a library and working for that.

 

He married Jeevalakshmi on 24th June 2006 and has one son named Aadhavan Nagarajan. His son got the fame of being the youngest Indian singer when he sang the song Kadhal Jodi Onnu Maattikitchu for the film Nellu. He was only two years old at that time.

 

Initially Muthukumar wanted to become a director and joined Balu Mahendra as assistant director. He worked with him for about 4 years and evolved into a lyricist. His debut song was for the Tamil film Veera Nadai directed by Seeman. This gave him more opportunities and he has penned more than 700 songs for over 50 films in his career.

 

Muthukumar has worked with almost all the music composers of Tamil film industry like A R Rahman, Haris Jayaraj, Dharan, Sundar C, Babu, G V Prakash Kumar and Ilayaraja and has grown to be one of the busiest lyricists. He has also written dialogue for the film Kireedam produced in 2007. He has established a good rapport with the music director Yuvanshankar Raja.

 

Some of the films for which he has penned the lyrics include Ayan, Naadodigal, Vaamanan, Aadhavan, Sura, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Paiyaa, Angadi Theru, Singam, Kalavani, Madrasapattinam, Naan Mahaan Alla, Vaanam, Porali, Poi Solla Porom, Deiva Thirumagal, Vanthaan Vendraan, Nanban, Marina, Aravaan, etc. His songs like En Kaadhal Solla Neramillai and Balleilakka became all time hits.

 

He has also written some novels namely Newtonin moondram Vidhi which is a collection of poems, Graamam Nagaram Maanagaram, Aniladum Mundril and Silk City. He has received many awards for his works include state awards and Filmfare awards. 

 

Muthukumar died due to jaundice on August 14, 2016 in the morning.
