N. Veeraswamy Biography

N. Veeraswamy was a film producer and distributor associated with Kannada film industry. He owned a film production house, Eshwari Productions, and produced many Kannada movies in this banner. V. Ravichandran, the prominent actor and filmmaker of Kannada film industry is his son. Manoranjan Ravichandran, a budding young actor associated with Kannada cinema is his grandson, who forms a part of the third generation of artists from his family, to work in Kannada cinema. He produced 17 Kannada films and one Hindi film, in a career spanning to two decades in film industry since early 1970s.

 

His full name is Nagappa Veeraswamy. He was born on 17 April 1932 in Otteri, North Arcot of Madras Presidency in British India as the son of Nagappa and Kamakshamma. He was born into a Tamil-speaking family of Mudaliars. The world of cinema fascinated him since young, and he joined Kannada film industry in the early 1950s during his youth days. He earlier worked as an attendant with Dreamland Pictures Corporation, and with 1955, he ventured into film distribution. He joined hands with his friend Gangappa, and started distributing movies since mid-1950s under the banner Udaya Pictures. In 1962, he set up his production house, Eshwari Productions under which he produced 17 Kannada films, one Tamil film - Padikkadavan (1985) and one Hindi film - Inquilaab (1984).

 

Kula Gourava was the first film released under his home banner, and it was released in the year 1971. The movie starred Rajkumar in triple roles along with Bharathi and Jayanthi in the lead roles. The movie had a very successful soundtrack composed by T. G. Lingappa. The movie also starred Veeraswamy’s son, Ravichandran as a child artist. The movie was a big hit and also received 5 state awards. It was followed by two back-to-back hits, Naagarahaavu (1972) and Bhootayyana Maga Ayyu (1974) and Nagappa Veeraswamy established as a leading film producer of 1970s.
