Mithran Jawahar Biography

Mithran Jawahar is a film director associated with Tamil film industry, who marked his debut with 2008 Tamil family drama film, Yaaradi Nee Mohini. The movie starring Dhanush and Nayantara was one of the highest grossers of 2008. He later directed the films, Kutty, Uthamaputhiran and Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai. All these movies were remakes of hit south Indian flicks. He frequently worked with Dhanush to give commercial hits like Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Uthamaputhiran. Dhanush starrer Kutty (2010) was an average grosser. His last release - Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai, a remake of Malayalam hit Thattathin Marayathu starred Walter Phillips in lead role with Isha Talwar reprised her role of the original version.

His full name is Mithran R. Jawahar. He apprenticed with Selvaraghavan before he started his independent career journey in Tamil cinema. He had no connection with film industry before he forayed into films. He joined the Film Institute at Adyar and did diploma course. After that, he joined as an assistant director under Mahendran while he was doing ‘Saasanam’ for NFDC. That’s how he started his journey in the film industry. It was an offbeat film, and when it got delayed he looked upon working with some commercial movie directors. That’s how he joined the team of Selvaraghavan. He knew the director since late 1990s.

He worked under the same director for a few years, and assisted him for the movies like Kaadal Kondein. Since then he developed a friendly relationship with Dhanush, with whom he did many hit movies in future. Pudupettai and Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verule are other movies for which he worked as an assistant director. In 2008, he remade Telugu flick, Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verule into Tamil. The movie titled Yaaradi Nee Mohini was one of the big hits of the year, marking his successful career journey.
