Mime Gopi Biography

Mime Gopi is a noted film and theatre artist associated with Tamil entertainment industry. He mostly portrays negative shaded character roles on Tamil silver screen, and has given life to many powerful villains of Tamil screen in the recent times. Madras (2014), Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014) and Kathakali (2016) are some of his noted roles. He was also seen in Mari, Maya, Thappu Thanda, Senjittale En Kadhala, Gethu, Uru, Kattappava Kanom, Maragadha Naanayam, Bhairava, Kattappava Kanom, Mo, Kabali etc. He played the negative role of Perumal in Pa Ranjith’s Madras and the antagonist in Rajinikanth starrer Kabali.

 

Mime gopi also runs G-Mime Studio, a mime school, and has been involved in training actors in several successful films, such as in Vallinam for several scenes. He is one of the busy character artists of Tamil cinema at present. As Mime, the theatrical technique of expression without words, is associated with Gopi’s life, ‘Mime’ tag got permanently added to his name. This art form entertains children with hearing disabilities, and Gopi has closely worked with children belonging to this group.

 

Mime Gopi was a renowned mime actor in Chennai and headed G Mime Studio before he forayed to films. He had set up the studio in 1994, and works for the expansion of this art form across Tamil Nadu. He was first seen in an uncredited role in 2010 film, Drohi. In 2014 he made a mass entry by playing Perumal in Pa Ranjith’s Madras which earned him critical acclamation and a permanent space in Tamil entertainment industry.

 

Since 2014, he is regular in Tamil movies, and till now he has appeared in more than 20 movies in the past three years. Nedunalvaadai is his upcoming release. The movie is directed by debutant director Selvakannan and produced by B-Star Productions.
