Master Hirannaiah Biography

Master Hirannaiah is a veteran film actor and stage personality associated with Kannada entertainment industry. He is the son of film director, actor and writer - K. Hirannaiah. He is currently known for playing noted supporting roles on silver screen, and a few of such memorable roles include -  ...Re, Care of Footpath 2, No. 73, Shanthi Nivasa etc. He appeared in more than 30 Kannada films. For his plays he chooses humour as the medium, and chooses themes such as injustice and other social diseases. He has always fought against the corruption, injustice, oppression and other social problems through his plays and other forms of work, which have been very effective in touching people's lives. He is a recipient of numerous honours including Kannada Rajyotsava Award, Gubbi Veeranna Award etc.

 

Master Hirannaiah was born on 15 February 1934 in Mysore, Karnataka. His birth name is Narasimha Murthy, and is also known by stage names – Hirannaiah and Hirannayya. His father K. Hirannaiah was a well-known writer & comedy actor. His mother’s name is Sharadamma. Born into a middle-class family, he worked as a newspaper boy to accumulate fund to complete his education. He completed his school and intermediate from his hometown, and after his death in 1953, he took over the management of the K.Hirannaiah Mitra Mandali started by his father. He was interested in plays since school days, and used to participate in plays since then.

 

Master Hirannaiah mostly associated with theater and appeared in only 30 movies, in a career spanning to about 5 decades. Lanchavathara, Double Thaali, Kanya Dahana, Sanyashi Samsara, Chamachavathara etc are among his most successful plays. He has also performed in many foreign countries. He also started established the Hirannaiah Award, in memory of his father.
