Marudhuri Raja Biography

Marudhuri Raja is a well-known screenwriter and film director associated with Telugu cinema. His elder brother M. V. S. Haranatha Rao is a well-known film and stage writer. As a dialogue writer and screenwriter, he closely worked with some of the big directors of the industry like E. V. V. Satyanarayana, S. V. Krishna Reddy and K. Raghavendra Rao. Raja started off his career as a dialogue writer in Telugu cinema, and has been associated with more 25 films in the role of screenwriter and dialogue writer. He is best known for his work in “Sisidri” and “Yajnam”.

 

Raja was born in Guntur of Andhra Pradesh and his education was done at Ongole. His father was a clerk and their mother was a musician. He has five siblings. His elder brother M. V. S. Haranatha Rao, who passed away last year was a very influential figure in Telugu writings. Since childhood days, Raja was interested in plays. Since then he used to script plays and direct them. He also acted in a few. He was a leading name in Telugu theatre and has written 18 plays before his debut in Telugu cinema as a dialogue writer. Navabharatam was his debut movie for which he wrote dialogues, and slowly he turned a script writer and director.

 

Marudhuri Raja wrote dialogues for over 200 movies, which include a few directed by his brother. As a dialogue writer, he was first noticed for ‘Mahabharata’, and started receiving offers from many filmmakers. As a dialogue writer, “Suryavamsa,” directed by Sriivasa Rao Bhimaneni and Girlfriend, directed by G. Nageshwara Reddy are among his early hits. “Kanchanamala Cable TV”, “Ranma,” “Nuvva Nena,” “Game,” “Agni,” “Ontari,” “Gudu Gudu Gunjam,” “Seema Tapakai,” etc are a few more works. In 2008, he directed two movies, “Adhyakshaa” and “Andariki Vandanalu”.
