Manoj Kumar (tamil Film Director) Biography

Manoj Kumar is a Tamil Film Director, who has done a few Kannada and Telugu movies too. He produced a couple of movies and played supporting roles in five movies too. He has directed 16 Tamil movies, 2 Kannada and 1 Telugu. As a film director, his last release was Jaisurya in 2004, which bombed at box office. He is associated with Tamil cinema since 1986. Though he directed about 20 films in south Indian languages, he remained unsuccessful as a director. He is the brother-in-law of ace film director Bharathiraja.

Manoj Kumar was born on 23 September 1960 in Allinagaram, Theni district, Tamil Nadu. As a film director he marked his debut with 1986 film Mannukkul Vairam. The movie starred iconic actor Sivaji Ganesan, along with Sujatha, Rajesh and Murali in lead roles. He wrote the script and directed the film, produced by Kovaithambi. Producer Kovaithambi signed him soon after he was impressed with the story narrated by Manojkumar, and the producer immediately narrated the story to Sivaji Ganesan as well. Sivaji Ganesan agreed to do the film and signed for the lead role. Though the movie ran for 50 days, it was not a huge success. Yet the producer and director got personal satisfaction to do a movie with the legendary actor.

He then directed a string of movies, but failed to receive success. Guru Paarvai (1998) starring Prakash Raj, won positive reviews and gave a breakthrough to the director. He continued with medium budget films and received limited success from films. Currently he has quit film direction and is doing character roles on big screen; Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, Kadaikutty Singam, Padaiveeran, Paayum Puli etc to mention a few.
