Manish Tiwary Biography

Manish Tiwary is a film director and screenwriter associated with Bollywood. He scripted and directed Issaq and Dil Dosti Etc. Both the movies failed to give an impression on box office and were panned by critics. His latest release Issaq (2013) starred Prateik Babbar and Amyra Dastur in lead roles and it was an Indian adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Amyra Dastur marked her Bollywood debut with the film. Her real name is Amy and the director changed her name to Amyra in order to avoid any confusion with Prateik Babbar‘s ex-girlfriend, Amy Jackson. There was a long break of 6 years between the releases of both the movies.

Manish was born in a small town in Bihar on 10 September 1982. Both his parents are doctors. He completed his schooling from a boarding school. He took Master’s degree from Cambridge University, UK, and Yale University, USA, and completed his PhD from Cambridge University. Manish also worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, in many foreign countries before he moved back to India to pursue a career in films. While he was studying and working he has done a few documentary films for UN and for University.

After completing PhD he wanted to do movies. He joined a film society in Cambridge because of his passion to movies. He also approached many producers in search of a break. Later one of his friends informed him that Prakash Jha is in search of a director for his next home production. Manish made the call and lucky he got the project - Dil Dosti Etc in 2007 which marked his directorial debut. The film told the story of students in Delhi University and their different concerns and ambitions.
