Manish Acharya Biography

Manish Acharya was a young filmmaker of Bollywood who rose to fame with his first film, Loins of Punjab Presents, which was released in 2007. The movie starred Shabana Azmi in the pivot role. In 2009 he played a cameo role in Farhan Akhtar starrer Luck by Chance – the movie which starred many Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan etc in cameo roles. Acharya fell from a horse on December 4, 2010, in Matheran, Maharashtra and was declared death when taken to the nearby hospital. He was 43 when death took him away. He was planning for his next movie, with Priyanka Chopra playing the female lead.

 

Manish Acharya was born on June 14, 1967. He completed graduation in Physics from Grinnell College in the year 1980. After completing Master’s from Iowa State in Industrial Relations, he took Master of Fine Arts in film directing from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He made his film debut as an independent filmmaker through the film - Loins of Punjab Presents, which starred Shabana Azmi, Ayesha Dharker and Ajay Naidu in lead roles. The movie released in English was a satire take of Bollywood films in lighter side.

 

Later he was seen doing a cameo role of himself for the Bollywood film - Luck by Chance. He also served as the narrator of the film - Sita Sings the Blues, a 2008 animated film by American artist Nina Paley. He died in a freak accident in Matheran, a popular hill station near Mumbai. He fell off his horse and died of brain haemorrhage on the way to hospital. He was working on the Indian version of the film – Bride Wars, when death took him away so unexpectedly.
