Mandy Takhar Biography

Mandy Takhar is a British model who works in Indian movies, predominantly in Punjabi language. She debut big screen with Punjabi movie, Ekam – Son of Soil in 2010 and debut Bollywood with Bumboo in 2012, where she played supporting role. Saadi Wakhri Hai Shaan (2012), Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 (2013) and Ishq Garaari (2013) are her other released Punjabi movies. In 2013, she debut Tamil film industry with Biryani which marked 100th film, music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Mandy Takhar played supporting role in this movie, where she acted aside Karthi, Hansika Motwani, Premgi Amaren and Ramki. iPhone Mann is her upcoming Punjabi movie, that’s scheduled to release in 2014.

 
Mandy Takhar was born and brought up in Wolverhampton of UK. She has ancestral roots in Maliana, a small town near Phagwara in Punjab. Since young, she dreamt to become a Bollywood actress. Her grandfather was a professor and her father a businessman. Thus she didn’t have anyone in the family related to acting field. For the same reason her family wasn't exactly excited when she stepped into films. When she was 17, she along with her family moved to London for further studies. She studied drama at the Kingston University and left the UK in 2006 to work as a model and actress in the Indian film industry.

 
She reached Mumbai in 2007 where she started her career as a model working for television ads. Then she got film offers from Punjabi, Hindi and Tamil movies, mostly in supporting and character roles. She also did a cameo appearance in 2013 Bollywood movie, Akash Vani. She gained recognition for her roles in Punjabi films such as Ekam - Son of Soil and Mirza - The Untold Story. She was paired opposite Punjabi singer Babbu Mann in the 2010 film, Ekam - Son of Soil. She also shed 10 kilos to do a bikini role in Bollywood movie, Bumboo. The song ‘Pinky Punjabi’ featuring Mandy was a hit in you tube and Indian music channels, though she received negative responses from critics for her acting.
