Mandakini Amte Biography 
Mandakini Amte is a social worker from Chandrapur District, Maharashtra, and is the daughter-in-law of Magsaysay awardee Baba Amte, who was also a social worker. She is also a recipient of Magsaysay Award along with her spouse Prakash Amte, a social worker and the son of Baba Amte. The couple was awarded the Magsaysay Award for 'Community Leadership’ in 2008 for their philanthropic work in the form of the Lok Biradari Prakalp in some states of India, including Maharashtra, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.
She is a qualified doctor who completed her medical studies from Government Medical College Nagpur. She also holds a Post-graduation Diploma in Anesthesia. She assisted her husband in the medical services in the tribal regions in the Madia Gond in the forests of Gadchiroli district, as a part of Lok Biradari Prakalp project since 1970s soon after marriage. She was honored with the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2008, for these efforts.
Mandakini Amte’s maiden name is Mandakini Deshpande. Her father was an RSS worker. She completed her medical studies, and she met her future husband Prakash Amte, while she was doing post-graduation in Anesthesia. They worked together in the same operation theatre. They both held ideas to work for the welfare of people, and slowly their professional relationship turned personal. Her family opposed her relationship. Baba Amte called her over to Anandwan and asked if she is willing to live with him in Anandawan. She said yes, and they got married. She also supported him and worked along with him for the services towards poor. Principality of Monaco released a postage stamp in honour of the life and work of Dr. Prakash and Dr. Mandakini in 1995.
