Mamatha Poojary Biography 
Mamatha Poojary is a professional international kabaddi player, who currently serves as the captain of the Indian women’s Kabaddi team. She was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2014 for her achievements in the field of Kabaddi. She is also a recipient of Rajyotsava Prashasti, the second-highest award of the Government of Karnataka. Mamatha was a part of the Indian Kabaddi team that won Gold in the south Asia games held in Colombo in 2006. Her team has won gold at different international championships multiple times. She is a railway employee, working with South Central Railways Zone of Indian Railways.
Mamatha Poojary hails from Karnataka. Poojary was born in 1986 into a farmer’s family in Udupi district of Karnataka. She hails from Hermunde village near Karkala of Udupi, and was born to Boja Poojary and Kitti Poojary. She has two siblings. She schooled from Hermunde and Ajekar, and since school days she was very active in sports, belonging to different categories. She played volleyball, short-put and Kabaddi and later got stuck with the later.
She represented Mangalore University at the international match held at Tirunelveli, and her team won gold. The win motivated her a lot, and proved to be a turning point of her life. After that she determined to pursue a career in Kabaddi. Dronacharya awardee and senior Kabaddi player Ajekar Ramesh Suvarna encouraged her during initial days while she was studying at college.
She belonged to an agricultural family, with no connections to sports. Yet, through her determination, she became one of the top players of Indian female Kabaddi team, and currently she serves as team captain. When women's Kabaddi team won the final match in Asian Games 2010 defeating the strong Thailand team, it was a new history written.
