Malay Roy Choudhury Biography 
Malay Roy Choudhury is a poet, novelist, dramatist, essay-writer and originator of Hungryalist Movement in India in the 1960s. He has published more than 60 books and he authors books in English, Bengali and Hindi languages. His literal reviews appear in HAOWA 49, a quarterly magazine. He is a recipient of PhD from Assam University for his seminal work on his Hungryist movement in India. He has been honoured by Sahitya Academy Award from Government of India, though he refused to accept it. This great personality is against accepting all forms of literal and cultural awards. Many of his works have been translated to other languages belonging to other parts of the world.
He was born in Patna in 1939. He did his post-graduation in 1960. He, along with his elder brother Samir Roychoudhury has directed many plays during his early phase as an artist. He became a part of Hungryalist Movement in India initiated by his elder brother and a few more associative, Roy Choudhury, Shakti Chattopadhyay, and Haradhon Dhara. Subsequently many noted poets joined the group. This movement is also known as "Hungry generation" in English terms. The group circulated many bulletins since 1961 and in 1965 an arrest warrant was issued against eleven Hungryalists. This movement in the 1960s is believed to have changed the course of Bengali literature. He was prosecuted for his publication of the poem "Stark Electric Jesus" and his typewriter was seized by Kolkata police.
He was perpetually scandalized by a section of the media and lost his sole job too. Later he moved to other forms of literature like fiction, drama, and essays on social and cultural issues. He quit writing in 1967 and came back in a bang in 1983, emerging as a major poet of Bengali language.
