Malashri Biography

Malashri is a successful Kannada actress who debut film industry with 1989 movie, Nanjundi Kalyana. This single movie placed her among the top actresses of her time and later she played lead roles in many hits of 1990’s and went on to become the most paid Kannada actress of the decade. She is mostly known for dramatic roles in Kannada cinema. Though known as dramatic heroine, she also owns many action and comedy movies in her credit.

Gajapathi Garvabhanga, Policana Hendathi, Prathap, Kitturina Huli and Tavarumane Udugore are her early hits. Though she gained success through dramatic and housewife type of roles, she equally excelled in tomboyish roles. Noted as the dramatic actress of Kannada cinema, she has delivered tear jerking movies like Gruha Pravesa, Mangalya, Sindoora Tilaka, Belli Kalungura and Mana Mechida Sose. She has portrayed comic roles in Readymade Ganda, Kanasina Rani, Malashri Mamashri and Halli Rambhe Belli Bombe and has done with ease, action flicks like SP Bhargavi, Rowdy Mattu MLA, Kollura Kaala and Marana Mrudanga.

She was born as Sri Durga in Chennai in the year 1973. She started her career as a child artist and has appeared in 34 films. But in most movies, she portrayed the role of a boy. As a leading actress, she was launched by Rajkumar in 1989. She played double role in Rani Maharani, the remake of Seeta Aur Geeta and Chaalbaaz and she was praised for her acting talents. She was successfully casted in Ramachaari - the remake of Tamil Hit Chinna Thambi which helped the producer to come out of the financial crisis. She received her first Filmfare in the year 1991 for the movie, Hrudaya Haadithu. With mid-1990’s her career started deteriorating and she made a comeback in the early 2000’s with a new image of angry women. In 2011, she received NTR Award. She is married to film producer, Ramu and her younger sister, Subhashri is also a film actress.
