Mahesh Muthuswami Biography

Mahesh Muthuswami is an Indian cinematographer who predominantly works in south Indian cinema. He is associated with Tamil, Telugu and Hindi language films. Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Jabardasth, Chithiram Pesuthadi, Anjaathey, Vamsam etc are some of his known works. While he was doing his diploma course in FTII, he won Jagdish Batra Memorial Scholarship and Phalke Memorial Honour 2nd Prize for the year 2004. He won Best Cinematographer Award 2010 for the film Nandalala from the Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan. He has been active from the year of 2005.

Mahesh Muthuswami was born in Palani, Tamil Nadu. His parents are R. Muthuswami and P. Vijayalakshmi. His father retired as HOD of Government Arts College, Dindigul. He completed his schooling from MSP Solai Nadar Memorial Higher Secondary school and did graduation from Mechanical Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. During his college time he developed his interest in Photography from his closest friend Muthuselvan and that passion made him to leave Bajaj to join the FTII, Pune for the course in Cinematography. He is married to Manimalar, who is also into media but currently she is working as a designer at San Academy group of schools. They have a daughter named Sanchita.

His first filmography is Chaitra, a short film which was released in 2000 in Marathi directed by Kranti Kanade and starring Sonali Kulkarni and Abhishek Bhave. In 2009 Mahesh has done camerawork for a Hindi 3D Animation Feature film, Alibaba & 41 Thieves, produced by UTV Motion Pictures and was directed by Soumitra Ranade. Some of his movies later are Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Jabardasth, Chithiram Pesuthadi, Anjaathey, Vamsam etc. Currently he is one of the most sought cinematographers from Tamil film industry.
