Mahanadi Shankar Biography

Mahanadi Shankar is a character artist associated with Tamil cinema, who rose to fame playing through his debut film, Mahanadi (1994) co-staring Kamal Hassan and Sukanya. His supporting role as Jail Warden (Thulukaanam) earned him recognition and he added ‘Mahanadi’ tag to his name after movie’s success. The movie received National award for best film in Tamil, and Shankar started receiving more roles from Tamil cinema. Though he played character roles of different shades, he earned appreciation and popularity for playing negative shades, comedy villain and antagonist roles. He is regular in films, and Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva, Julieum 4 Perum, Senjittale En Kadhala, Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen and Padaiveeran are among his recent works.

 

His real name is Shankar, who marked his film debut with 1994 film Mahanadi in a negative role. After working in Mahanadi, he appeared in Panchalankurichi movie, with an entirely different Madhurai Tamil slang. It’s one of the challenging roles in his career, as the actor with Madras slang felt that he was doing some other language film. Golmaal was the first film in which he played a full-fledged comedy role for the first time. Later he played comedy and sentimental roles onscreen. Yet he earned success playing negative shaded roles, henchman, and comedy villain sometimes.

 

He gained popularity playing comedy villain, and has shared screen space with Vadivelu in many films. This extremely talented actor known for his rough voice, brings modulation for his comedy roles making it entirely different. He got married at the age of 29 after he started playing negative roles onscreen in the 1990s. He had 3 brothers, and all are settled with family life.
