Madhu Pandit Dasa Biography

Madhu Pandit Dasa, formerly known as Madhusudan. S is a religious leader and social worker who currently serves as President of ISKCON Bangalore, Chairman of The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Chairman of Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir. He is best known for planning ISKCON Bangalore and successfully executing it. Currently it’s one of the largest ISKCON ritvik temples in the world. He spearheaded Akshaya Patra project which currently gives free lunch to millions of school students in the selected 10 states of India. For his outstanding contributions to this field, he has been awarded Padma Shri by government of India.

He was born in 1956 in Nagercoil of Tamil Nadu. He completed B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT-Mumbai in 1980. He got married to Bhaktilata Devi Dasi in 1984. He was drawn towards the ideology of Prabhu Padar, who started ISKCON in the early 1980s, and also served as the President of ISKCON Thiruvananthapuram in 1984. He joined the organization in 1981. He initiated Akshaya Patra Foundation in the year 2000. Started off with serving free meals for 1500 underprivileged kids in a school, now it has branched to a big organization. Currently Akshaya Patra has become one of the few trustworthy NGOs in the country.

When he dreamt to build a temple at Hare Krishna hill, he gave that task to his friend N. R. Joseph for design. He was not enough experienced in the field, though he completed Civil engineering from IIT. Later passing the work through different hands, the temple was finally completed by Madhu Pandit Dasa. Though he planned to build main temple structure only, later he added two more temples, as devotees felt it difficult to climb the mountain. Started without any money in hand, the temple was built by the money given by devotees and it adds to 30 crore rupees.
