M. S. Rajashekar Biography

M. S. Rajashekar is a successful film director associated with Kannada film industry. This veteran director made his directorial debut in the year 1985 with the film - Dhruva Thare, starring Rajkumar in the lead role. Since then he has directed the matinee idol in many movies. In fact he has frequently worked with Rajkumar’s sons Raghavendra Rajkumar and Shivarajkumar in the 1990s. Thus he played a major role in establishing both these actors’ career in the 1990s. After 2006 he took a break from the industry. Ravi Shastri starring V. Ravichandran was his last release as a director. His son Raghavendra Dharani has made his directorial debut with 2011 movie, Dhool.

 

He is the son of makeup artist Subbanna. Rajashekar began his career in the industry as an assistant director in the early 1980s. He made his first independent film in the year 1985 - Dhruva Thare, which was a major hit at box office. Later he went on to make many hits such as Ratha Sapthami, Mana Mechchida Hudugi and Nanjundi Kalyana. Ratha Sapthami and Mana Mechchida Hudugi starred Raghavendra Rajkumar in lead role while Nanjundi Kalyana starred Raghavendra Rajkumar. In fact the movie marked the debut of Raghavendra and its lead actress Malashree. Ade Raaga Ade Haadu and Aasegobba Meesegobba were other major hits.

 

Permanently associated with Rajkumar family and their home productions, he worked with Rajkumar’s sons in majority of his movies, particularly in the 1990s. Most of the movies were produced by Parvathamma Rajkumar. Hrudaya Haadithu and Mannina Doni are successful ventures starring Ambareesh. He mostly adapted successful novels for his film scripts and it proved successful. He made remakes towards the last phase of his career before his retirement.
