M. Muthaiah Biography

M. Muthaiah is a noted film director and screenwriter associated with Tamil film industry. He marked his career with Kutti Puli in 2013, and is best known for making movies belonging to rural drama theme. Most of his films remained commercially successful and remained in limelight for the rural themes chosen and treatment of movies. He has been choosy on his projects, and works in a single film throughout a year. His other released projects are Komban (2015), Marudhu (2016), Kodiveeran (2017) and upcoming Devarattam slated to release in 2018. The director declares that all his films will be about relationships.

Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar is the hometown of M. Muthaiah. He moved to the dreamland Chennai to pursue a career in films. He debuted with the rural drama Kutti Puli (2013) starring Sasikumar. The movie received only average reviews from film critics. However the movie went on to become a commercial success and Muthaiah came to spotlight. His second film Komban was released in 2015. The movie starred Karthi, Lakshmi Menon and Rajkiran in lead roles. Similar to his debut film, this movie too opened to mixed reviews, but was a commercial success at the box office. The director scripted the story straight from his own experiences. The movie explored relations and was about Kombaiah Pandian, a butcher played by Karthi, and his relationship with his father-in-law, played by Rajkiran.

His third release was Marudhu (2016) featuring Vishal and Sridivya in the lead roles. The director continued his success streak. His third film, Marudhu too was commercially successful. Muthaiah looks forward to directing a city-based film in the future. He re-united with Sasikumar for his fourth flick – Kodiveeran in 2017, after his debut movie. Actress Poorna went baldpate for the rural entertainer, Kodi Veeran for which the movie remained in spotlight.
