Latha Sethupathi Biography

Latha Sethupathi is a popular actress of Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil silver screen in the 1970s and 1980s who played several lead roles. Currently she is popular as a television actress of Telugu and Tamil mega serials. One of the leading actresses of 1970s and 1980s, she has been paired with all leading heroes of Malayalam and Tamil film worlds. She has done over 100 films and was counted among the most glamorous and talented actresses then. Vattathukkul Sadhuram – earned her a Filmfare award and she is also a recipient of Kalaimamani award.

She reprised the glamorous Zeenat Aman role in two remakes of Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) - the Telugu film Annadammula Anubandham (1975) and the Tamil film Naalai Namathay (1975). She has been paired with MGR & Rajinikanth in the 1970s Tamil movies. A close associate of M. G. Ramachandran, she is also known by the name M.G.R. Latha. Latha was born into a royal family of politicians in Chennai. Her father Shanmugha Rajeswara Sethupathi was a leading politician and her brother Rajkumar Sethupathi, a noted actor known for character roles in the 1980s. Noted actress and director Sripriya is her sister-in-law.

She was born in 1953 in Sethupathy clan royal family. Her photogenic looks and dancing skills attracted film fraternity and she received film offers since younger age. She was encouraged by her aunt actress Kamala Kotnis (Devanand’s first heroine). She entered film scene through the blockbuster hit, Ulagam Sutram Valiban where she played lead role opposite MGR. The movie was shot in several foreign countries, thus becoming a visual treat. With the first movie itself she established as a leading heroine of the industry and remained M.G.R's leading lady for several years in Tamil films. She made Telugu debut with the film, Andala Ramudu (1973) opposite Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
