Lalit Mohan Tiwari Biography

Lalit Mohan Tiwari is a veteran Bollywood and television actor known for portraying powerful character roles on screen. He is also called Lalit Tiwari and he is mostly associated with many legendary film makers and parallel cinema. . He portrayed the pivot character role of Sanjana (the commentator of Mahabharata war) in B. R. Chopra’s popular television serial of early 1990s – Mahabharata. He also appeared in Shyam Benegal's historical television series of early 1990s - Bharat Ek Khoj.

 

He regularly features in Shyam Benegal movies. As a Bollywood actor, he is best known for the roles Anwar, bad luck Govind, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin, Om-Dar-Ba-Dar, Mangal Pandey: The Risin, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, Mammo, Hari-Bhari , Chandni, Lamhe, Jai Santoshi Maa, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Rab da Vaasta, Bawander, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero, Welcome to Sajjanpur and Well Done Abba! Bible Ki Kahaniya, Mahabharata, Itihaas and Bharat Ek Khoj – all aired on Doordarshan in the 1990s are some of his powerful roles on mini screen.

 

Lalit is an alumnus of National School of Drama, New Delhi. He made his acting debut through Sudhir Mishra's Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin in 1987. Though he played character roles in the late 1980s and 1990s, it was through Doordarshan series like Mahabharat and Bharat ek khoj, he received attention and popularity. He was regularly featured in several off beat movies of Shyam Benegal and other leading directors, though he was associated with commercial movies of Chopra camp as well. He decided to join movies and television when nothing promising was happening with theatre.
