Kunju Muhammed (actor) Biography

Kunju Muhammed was a film actor associated with Malayalam cinema. He played brief roles and supporting roles on Malayalam silver screen, best known for comic roles. He has been associated with theatre for a long time, as a stage actor. He has been active in films since 1990s. He passed away on 12^th September 2018, when he collapsed on a shooting venue of Sathyan Anthikad’s film. He suffered from chest pain and collapsed. The actor is known for his spontaneous jokes and friendly talks in film circle, and is quite popular among all. So his unexpected death shocked the film world. He was almost a permanent fixture of director Kamal films, who frequently casted Muhammed in his movies in brief roles. In fact both hailed from the same place, Mathilakam, Kodungallur.

Kunju Muhammed hails from Mathilakam, Kodungallur of Thrissur district, Kerala. Currently he has been residing in Eriyaad, the coastal belt of Kodungallur taluk, for many years. Muhammed has drawn towards acting since young, and got associated with theatre in his younger days. He gained popularity playing comedy roles on stage. Later he moved to Chennai, eyeing for good opportunities in silver screen. He started off as a helper among film workers, and got acquainted with director Kamal, who belongs to his native place. Ee Puzhayum Kadannu was one of their earl associations, and Kamal casted him in the most recent flick, Aami too.

Kunju was busy with the shooting of Sathyan Anthikad’s film, Jnan Prakasan, when he got chest pain and collapsed in the shooting location. Though he was taken to the nearby private hospital, doctors couldn’t save him. He was fondly called Kunjikka by his friends in film world. Quite interestingly, he is the third Malayali artist who passed away this year in a similar manner with their makeups on. Rest two artists were Guru Gopinath and Madavoor Vasudevan Nair.
