Kunal Goswami Biography

Kunal Goswami is a former Bollywood actor best known for playing the lead role in 1983 Bollywood film, Kalaakar opposite Sridevi. He is the son of legendary actor and Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner, Manoj Kumar, also known as Bharat Kumar. Though Kunal appeared in a string of movies in the 1980s, mostly playing a romantic young hero, his films flopped one after another and then he retired from movies. He made his film debut as a child star in Kranti (1981) which was directed by his father Manoj Kumar, and is best remembered for the iconic Kishore Kumar song, Neele Neele Ambar Par, filmed on him. In 1999 he appeared in his father’s directorial venture, Jai Hind.

 

Kunal Goswami was born on November 24, 1971 into a family with strong link with cinema. His father Manoj Kumar is an established actor of 1960s and 1970s, best known for a string of patriotic films which he produced and directed since late 1960s. Kunal was launched to celluloid by his father, when he was asked to enact the role of Manoj Kumar’s childhood role in Kranti, and the movie was a huge hit. After that he moved towards lead hero roles.

 

His mother’s name is Shashi Goswami. He is nicknamed Ricky, after a movie with the same name was released where he played the titular role. His brother Vishal Goswami sang all his songs for the movie. He is married to Riti Goswami and has one son. His engagement with Priya Chopra (Daughter of businessman Vinod Chopra) was called off after she eloped with notorious criminal Ravi Singhal. Kunal’s name has been linked with Prakash Mehra's niece Anuradha in 1985, and also well-known model Jessica Lall in 1990. He is the nephew of actor Rajiv Goswami and cousin to director Subhash Bhakri.
