Kharaj Mukherjee Biography

Kharaj Mukherjee is a multitalented personality associated with Bengali cinema, who is known as an actor, song writer, composer and singer. Started his film journey in the year 1980, Kharaj has successfully completed 35 years in the industry, doing different forms of work. Some of his noted films as an actor include - Bhalobashar Choan (2000), Prem (2007), Bhalobasha Bhalobasha, Love Story (2008), Tollylights etc. He is also a popular singer and music composer, who won Bengal Film Journalists' Association – Best Male Playback Award in 2004 for the film Patalghar. He has also done a few theatric productions including Bhushundir Maathe, which included the actors Sreelekha Mitra, Abhishek Chatterjee, Samaresh Chakraborty etc.

Kharaj was born in Kolkata on 7 July 1963. He was associated with theatre since younger days. He worked with Rama Prasad Banik, where he got exposure to the art of theater. He studied at St. Xavier’s College Kolkata and while performing live for his college program, he was offered his film - “Hulusthul”, by a film maker who was present at that occasion. By the time he debut big screen in 1980, he was already an established actor in the field of theatre. He worked in Indian Railways after finishing college life and it was difficult for him to adjust between his career and real passion.

He regularly appeared in television serials throughout 1980s, a time when only Doordarshan was available. Known as a musician, he used to pen lyrics, compose its songs and rendered his voice for those tracks as well. Widely regarded as one of the finest artists of the industry, he acted in the Bollywood flick – Kahaani, portraying the role of a cop - Inspector Chatterjee. He is known in the industry for his natural acting. Besh Korechi Prem Korechi, Herogiri and Jamai 420 are his latest releases.
