Ketan Anand Biography

Ketan Anand is a director of Bollywood belonging to the famous Anand filmy family. He is the son of famous film director Chetan Anand of Neecha Nagar fame. His mother Uma Anand was a journalist, Bollywood actress and a broadcaster, who frequently got associated with the family banner in the role of actress and screenwriter. His brother is also associated with Bollywood. Ketan is the nephew of the legendary & famous actor-directors, Vijay Anand and Dev Anand and also Kalpana Karthik whom Dev married. In 2002, Ketan and his brother Vivek were sentenced to life imprisonment along with their two servants for murdering actress Priya Rajvansh with whom their father had a live-in relationship after the breakup with their mother Uma. Film director Shekhar Kapur is his first cousin (paternal aunt’s son).

Ketan made a screen appearance for the first time aside his brother for their home production, Funtoosh in the 1950s. It was a song sequence alongside their uncle Dev Anand and Sheila Ramani. He grew up watching his father’s movies, and later concentrated on to theatre. He graduated from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He also co-authored his mother’s last published book, Chetan Anand: The Poetics of Film, which throw some light of the cine industry in the 1940s and 1950s.

Following his father’s footsteps, Ketan directed two films - Toote Khilone and Shart, and received only limited success. Toote Khilone is best known for a romantic solo sung by Yesudas composed by Bappi Lahiri. Anand brothers were convicted in the 2000s for murdering Bollywood actress Priya Rajvansh, who had a live-in relationship with their father Chetan Anand. Chetan Anand had written some property in the name of Priya, which resulted in the outrage of the brothers. A sensational case in the 2000s, it occurred in property dispute. The brothers were sentenced to life imprisonment. In the 2000s, Ketan tried to direct one film already scripted by his father. But the project didn’t materialize.
