Kelly Dorji Biography

Kelly Dorji is a noted actor associated with Bollywood and south Indian cinema, best known for playing supporting and character roles. He is of Bhutan origin and Thimpu is his native place, and he currently resides in Mumbai, where he is concentrating on to his career in south Indian cinema. Whether the role of cope or henchman, Kelly Dorji has created a niche of his own through the brief roles he played onscreen in the past 12 years or so. Lahore, Ek Ajnabee, Chocolate, Don: The Chase Has Begun, Fareb etc are some of his noted works in Bollywood. Started off his career with Bollywood cinema, he has now shifted his work towards south, and regularly appears in Telugu and Tamil movies.

Kelly Dorji is a Bhutanese actor from Thimpu who started his professional career through modelling. He remained very successful in modelling career and a product of Gladrags Manhunt contest. In fact he came to India from Bhutan for study. He studied at St. Paula’s boarding school in Darjeeling and later continued his studies at St. Xavier’s college, Mumbai where he met Lara Dutta. His 6-foot height attributed a lot to his modelling career, which happened by chance while he was doing his graduation at St. Xavier’s.

He also had a brief career as a TV anchor. He anchored a show called Star Biz on Star Movies with model-turned actress Lisa Ray, and received rave reviews. He debut big screen with the movie, Auroville 316 directed by Shamin Desai in 2001. But the movie had a low key release and went unnoticed. He was offered a French film titled Samsaraa which he has turned down. Tango Charlie in 2005 is the first commercial movie in which he appeared, and since then he got opportunity to work in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil movies. Billa, Kedi, Golimaar, Power, Badrinath etc are some of his Telugu works.
