Kainaz Motivala Biography

Kainaz Motivala is a film actress associated with Bollywood, who shot to fame after playing the title role in Bollywood horror thriller, Ragini MMS directed by Pawan Kripalani. An experimental film made on low budget, Ragini MMS became a huge hit at box office too. It was probably the first Indian film belonging to found footage category and is partly based on the real story of a girl from Delhi. The movie produced by Ekta Kapoor was its director’s maiden project too, and Kainaz was paired with Rajkummar Rao. Apart from a trained dancer, she is a successful model who has been featured in several TV ads. She has also done one TV soap – Kismat in 2011.

She was born and brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra.  Kainaz’s sister Karishma Motivala is six years younger to her. She trained in ballet and tap dance during her school days. She married Urvaksh Doctor in a Parsi ceremony in 2013. She made her film debut through Shahid Kapoor starrer Paathshala in 2010, where she was seen in a bit role of Shailey. She was also seen in several commercials such as Uninor, Mcdonalds, Videocon Mobile Phone and Sony Pix Promo. Yet it was her lead role of Ragini in Ragini MMS which earned her accolades. She played the same character in its sequel, Ragini MMS 2, where she was seen in a cameo role.

Though she got a big break to Bollywood through Ragini MMS, she failed to get good roles in Hindi films, and was later seen only in the film, Challo Driver in 2012. The movie sank without any trace. Same year she made her south Indian debut through the Telugu film, Boochamma Boochodu opposite Sivaji which became a sleeper hit. Similar to Ragini MMS, this movie also belonged to horror genre. She has been trained under Shiamak Davar for long six years.
