Kadhal Sukumar Biography

Kadhal Sukumar is a film director and actor associated with Tamil films. He got the big break in movies through Balaji Sakthivel's romantic film Kaadhal (2004), and Kadhal tag got added to his name. Since then his roles on silver screen rarely get noticed. He has been associated with movies since late 1990s, and started his career as a background dancer in 1997. In 2015 he marked his directorial debut with Thiruttu VCD, and has done one more movie - Summave Aaduvom the following year. As an actor he has appeared in around two dozens of Tamil movies. As an actor, he got noticed for comic roles.

Sukumar hails from Alanganallur, Madurai. He was born into a middle class farmer family. He had 5 siblings of whom one sister has expired. His father is a farmer by profession, and also a photographer. He came to Chennai in 1997 in search of opportunities in Tamil films. Since the age of 6, he started dreaming about doing movies. He was first seen in a song sequence of 1997 movie, Sakthi, where he shared screen space with Vadivelu for the song. He danced as a background dancer and got noticed for his resemblance with Vadivelu himself. Since then he played small roles on screen till Kadhal happened in 2004. The movie changed the life of many newcomers including the crew, and Sukumar was one among those.

One of his early releases, Kaadhal Saadhi directed by Kasthuri Raja had not released yet. It was Oorvambu, a program in Raj T.V. that made him famous. The show also helped him to get more chances in Tamil cine industry. As an actor, Kaadhal is his favorite work. Virumandi and Vasoolraja M.B.B.S. are the other favorite ones, for which he enjoyed working with Kamal Hassan.
