Kadhal Dhandapani Biography

Kadhal Dhandapani was a noted character artist associated with south Indian films. He shot to fame after playing the antagonist’s role in Tamil blockbuster – Kaadhal released in 2004. He played the negative role of Rajendran, Sandhya’s father in the movie and similar to other debutants and less known artists associated with the film, Kadhal tag got added to his name as well. Later he appeared in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. He passed away on 20 July 2014 following a cardiac arrest, aged 71. Kaadhal was his debut film. Thus in a career spanning to one decade, he gave life to more than 200 character roles onscreen.

 

Dhandapani was born in 1943 in Madras Presidency of British India. Prior to his entry to films at a late age, he was a businessman in Dindigul. He had diversified business roles and was also known for his participation in honorary postings in the town. He was casted as Sandhya's father in Kaadhal, and the movie directed by Balaji Sakthivel gave him a new turning point of his life. Later he portrayed many memorable roles in movies like Chithiram Pesuthadi, Sandakozhi, Englishkaran, Unakkum Enakkum, Velayudham, Muni, Vattaram, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and many more.

 

He made his Malayalam film debut through Mammootty starrer Rajamanikyam in 2005, where he was seen in a cameo role. He shared screen space with Mammootty the next time for the movie, Pokkiri Raja released in 2010. Known for his intense portrayal of characters in many films, he also showed his knack for comedy in a few movies. Sarath Kumar's Sandamarudham was his last release. His death took place quite unexpectedly and he was quite active in the film scene when death took his away.
