K. P. Nambiathiri Biography

K. P. Nambiathiri is an Indian cinematographer best known for his contributions to 3-D films. After completing a three-year course in film technology at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, he worked as a film processor with Doordarshan Chennai for a brief period. Later he joined film industry and worked in different roles from assistant director and camera man to cinematographer, art director and still photographer. As a cinematographer of feature films, he marked his debut with Mohanlal starrer, Lal Salaam in the 1990s. Noted south Indian actress, Shivani Bhai is his adopted daughter, and he acted as her mentor for her Tamil film debut. Noted Kerala cricketer Prasanth Parameswaran is married to Shivani.

Nambiathiri K. P hails from Ochira of Kollam district. To pursue a career in films, he specialized in cinematography from Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu Adyar, and briefly worked with Doordarshan before he completely switched over to film arena. He works as Cinematographer and3D consultant (stereographer) in the film industry since 1979. He worked in different roles in the film industry before he finally established himself as a successful cinematographer and 3D consultant. Apart from feature films, he has also been associated with documentaries and short films.

He worked as Director of Photography on the Tamil film Eeramana Rojave in 1985, and in the career spanning to about 4 decades, he has worked in over 65 feature films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages. He worked as director of photography, with Lal Salam, directed by Venu Nagavally, and also was the Head Stereographer for the revived version of Chhota Chetan in 1998 as well as Magic Magic 3D. He was a jury member for the Kerala State Television Award committee in the year 2004.
