Jim Sarbh Biography

Jim Sarbh is a theatre artist, director and stage actor based in Mumbai. He has also done a few Bollywood movies in the recent times, and best known for playing antagonist roles in 2016 blockbuster, Neerja and the recent release, Raabta. Padmavati is his upcoming project and he is also working in a couple of big budget films. As a theater artist, his contribution to Indian art is immensely huge. He was selected for the Forbes India 30 under 30 list in early 2015.

 

Jim Sarbh was born into a Parsi family in Mumbai. His father was a master mariner and mother was a physiotherapist. At the age of 3, his family moved to Australia and returned 5 years later. He schooled at American School of Bombay and pursued higher studies from Emory University in US. Psychology was his subject. After studies, he got fully associated with theater life and worked at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta as a stage actor for many plays. He moved back to Mumbai in 2012 and remained fully active in theater circle.

 

He received his first break in 2015 for the movie, Neerja. The movie released in early 2016 opened to critical acclaim and his negative role was well appreciated. Since then he became a familiar face in Bollywood and got a few more movies as well. Apart from stage shows and films, he has also appeared in a few short films like Mama’s Boys and Like Summer Like Rain. Vickram Kapadia’s The Merchant of Venice, Kalki Koechlin’s The Living Room, and Rajat Kapoor’s What is Done, is Done are his major performances as a stage actor.

 

In his upcoming release, Padmavati, he portrays the real life role of Malik Naib Kafur. He has signed Sanjay Dutt’s biopic and will also be seen in Mithoon, Malayalam-Hindi bilingual fantasy film, which marks Bollywood debut of Nivin Pauley.
