Jibu Jacob Biography

Jibu Jacob is a successful film director associated with Malayalam film industry. He is a cinematographer-turned-director, who marked his film debut in 2002. He shot to fame after his directorial debut, Vellimoonga, a political satire turned a blockbuster. He also directed Mohanlal-Meena starrer family drama, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, which became a major hit in 2017. As of now, he has directed two Malayalam films, and both of them were well received by Malayali audience.

Jibu Jacob started his film career as an assistant director in the industry. He had a short stint as an assistant director in the industry, before he moved to cinematography. He debuted as a cinematographer in 2002 with the crime film Stop Violence. The movie was directed by A. K. Sajan. For next one decade till 2013, he worked extensively as a cinematographer in Malayalam film industry. He has worked in around 25 Malayalam films as a cinematographer in next 10 years, till he switched over to film direction.

As a cinematographer, some of his works include Shakespeare M.A. Malayalam, Cinema Company, Oru Small Family, Sakudumbam Shyamala, Heart Beats, Pranayakalam, Boy Friend, Deepangal Sakshi, The Campus, Mohabbath, Kanmazha Peyyum Munpe, De Ingottu Nokkiye, Thaskaraveeran and a few more. In 2014 he turned a full-fledged film director through Vellimoonga with Biju Menon playing the lead role of a local political leader. The movie played a magnificent role in establishing Biju Menon as a lead actor in comic role, and after that he starred in a series of Malayalam movies, belonging to same genre.

His second film as a director Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol was entirely different from first one, and emerged as box office hit too. It told how the charm of husband-wife relationships fade as time passes by, and how it can be rejuvenated.
