Jhulan Goswami Biography

Jhulan Goswami is a female cricketer representing Indian national team who serves as an all-rounder for her team. On February 7, 2018 she laid a world record and became the first female cricketer to take 200 ODI wickets. She achieved the feat during the second ODI between India and South Africa in Kimberley playing her 166th match at the age of 35. An integral part of the team who serves as right arm medium bowler and Right-hand batsman, she has also lead women’s team in 2009 World Cup. She won the ICC Women's Player of the Year 2007. A veteran and experienced pace bowler of the team, she was the fastest playing bowler in world women cricket after Cathryn Fitzpatrick retired.

 

Goswami hails from Chakdaha Nadia – a small town in West Bengal. She was born in the year 1982. She was a fan of football, before she started playing cricket at the age of 15. She watched 1992 Cricket World Cup on TV, her first encounter with cricket, and she watched Australia vs New Zealand 1997 Women’s World Cup final live at the stadium. She was charmed by Belinda Clark which changed her decision. She took it steps further for cricket training, though her parents want her to complete her studies first. She moved to Kolkata to get training, where she continued with studies as well.

 

She made her entry in the Bengal cricket team. At the age of 19, she made her India debut in 2002 in an ODI against England in Chennai. She made her Test debut in 2002 against England in Lucknow, and played her first international T20 match in 2006. She played a major role to lead the team to victory in the Test series against England in 2006–07 season. She served as team captain during 2008-2011 period.
