Jayasudha Biography

Jayasudha Kapoor is a south Indian actress who has also worked in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam movies as well as a few Hindi movies. She is also a politician and congress MLA from Secunderabad. She is mostly associated with Telugu cinema and quite a popular name. Now she plays character roles in most of the movies. She received Filmfare award for best supporting actress twice for Telugu cinema. Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi in 2003 and Kotha Bangaru Lokam in 2008 are those memorable performances which helped her to bag Filmfare awards. Telugu film Lakshmana Rekha (1975) marked her debut as a heroine. Among her Malayalam movies, 2001 movie Ishtam is the most popular role she played. She was paired with Nedumudi Venu in this movie and this movie marked the acting debut of Navya Nair, opposite Dileep.

Jayasudha was born as Sujatha Nidudavolu in Chennai in 1958. She is the niece of noted film personality - Vijaya Nirmala. She made her acting debut at the age of 12 with the movie, Pandanti Kapuram (1972). After that she shared screen space with Kamal Hassan for the movie, Arangetram. K. Balachander gave her numerous roles in the industry in the early 1970s, most notably supporting roles. She changed her name to Jayasudha, as there was already one south Indian actress with the name – Sujatha.

Lakshmana Rekha (1975) marked her new beginning as a heroine. In the Telugu remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Mili, Jayasudha reprised the title role played by Jaya Bdaduri. After that she appeared in about 225 movies and became one of the top heroines as well. In one year, her 24 films got released and she was a busy heroine then.  Meghasandesam (1982) is one of her memorable movies. Her younger sister, Subhashini has also acted in a few movies in character roles. She is married to film producer Nitin Kapoor.
