Jayan Biography

Jayan is considered as the style icon of Malayalam film industry. His career was short and he died while shooting the climax scene of multi starrer ‘Kolilakkam’ – the remake of Yash Chopra’s Waqt. But he is still considered as the pride of youth. Jayan film festivals are conducted frequently in the state and it is most surprising that, he attained the highest stardom and popularity of his life during the 20th death anniversary year 2000. That time, many programs were conducted in television and colleges and his dialogues became most popular in college campuses at this time. No doubt, he is the only hero of Malayalam who has been framed as super star years after the death.

 

His original name is Krishnan Nair and he was a bachelor. He was born in Kollam and most recently, his stone figure has been inaugurated. His stunts in the action movies and body fitness were popular that time. His voice was also so powerful to capture millions of fans around. He died at the peak of his career when a few projects were under production. As he died shooting the climax, in the movie also it was shown as ‘dead’. But in the original movie Waqt, Raj Kumar whom Jayan replicates, is alive till end.  

 

He was a navy officer before he entered the film world. His frits movie was Postmane kaananilla. The name ‘Jayan’ was given to Krishnan Nair by the veteran actor Jos Prakash, who most recently passed away. His film journey include many superhits, a few of them got released after his death. Moorkhan, Maushya Mrigam, Agnisaram, Akramanam, Ariyapedatha rahasyam, Sanchari – all these movies were released posthumously. He rose to style icon position with the movie ‘Shara Pancharam’ opposite Sheela in 1979. He was known for his looks and physical fitness than his acting skills. Directors make use of his body language and dialogue delivering skills to give numerous action hits to Malayalam.

 

A few more movies that need special mention include Thacholi Ambu, Chandrahasam, Love in Singapore, Aavesam, Deepam and Angadi. No doubt, if someone remembers the style icons of Malayalam, Jayan’s name will come first.

 

Till now, the helicopter incident and his death is an unsolved mystery. Many still believe that it’s a planned murder erasing all proofs. Many folktales were spread related to the director I.V.Sasi and his co-star Seema, who got married later.
